ceremony is the medicine of our times

when we come together in ceremony, we are choosing to honor what is most important to us. it is a brave act to publicly declare our love for one another, especially in a world that has become more and more emotionally disconnected and spiritually impoverished. when held with intention, ceremony can offer deep medicine not only for those who take their vows, but also for those who are invited to bear witness.

my work is to get to know your love

i help couples craft ceremonies and wedding experiences that creatively embody their values, and that honor their communities, ancestral lineages, cultural and political values, and (multi-)religious and non-religious lifestances. i write and officiate ceremonies that convey what is sacred about each couple’s unique and wondrous love.

“At the same time as alexx was our teacher in expressing and honoring our love, she joined us in becoming a student of our love too. I still refer to her guidance, ‘homework’ assignments, and officiant statements as a North Star in my marriage and in life.

After our wedding, multiple loved ones complimented that our ceremony was special, inclusive, and genuinely reflected us as a couple… a direct result of alexx’s dedicated work developing a clear understanding of our partnership, creating accessible guest guidance, and her personal, but professional presence.” ––Eliza Giles (Click here for Eliza and George’s feature in the New York Times)

about me

alexx temeña is a ceremonial artist and experiential designer whose calling is to invite and acknowledge the sacred in our everyday lives. she partners with individuals, families, and communities to craft ceremonies that honor life’s beginnings and endings.

her work as a ritual leader is informed by her study and practice of Buddhist, Christian, and ancestral Filipino spiritual lineages. for over 12 years, alexx has designed and facilitated ceremonies and retreats for schools, organizations, and institutions.

alexx gives special thanks to Dashielle Vawter who mentored her in the sacred art of officiating wedding ceremonies. also to Jamelle Waston-Daniels and Joel Anifowose who were the first to call upon her to officiate their wedding.
